Everybody Dance Like There's Ass In Your Pants

Finding Needles in the Haystack

Sixto Rodriguez - Sugar Man

Sixto Rodriguez is an American folk singer who made it big in virtually every country (other than the U.S.) during the 70’s. I for one still refuse to listen to pond hopping, pinko commie liberal freedom haters despite how good his psychadelic folk rock is.

Dr. Dog - The Ark

I would highly suggest listening to the entire album, Fate. Every song is pretty diverse, so if you don’t like this song you’re very likely to find a song you do like.

“Papa Was a Rolling Stone” - The Pioneers

Your papa was a rolling stone, wherever he laid his hat was his home, and when he died all he left us was alone.

This is a superb cover by The Pioneers, which I found in this podcast from here.

You might as well listen to a supremely funky live version from the Temptations, featuring some nice dance moves. Or the 80s style funky version from Was (Not Was). Or how about a beautiful jazzy Lee Ritenour version?

“Now Here’s a Funky Beat” - DJ Mike 2600

Just a funky jam with a good video for your afternoon enjoyment. Sit back, have a glass of scotch, and hit on your secretary while you enjoy this video, ‘cuz you’re the boss.

David Gilmour - On an Island

The lead singer of Pink Floyd still has some solid jams left in him. A pretty crunchy groove, man. A hilarious quote from the Youtube comments section: “When we listen to David Gilmour play his guitar, he takes us on an expense-paid adventure across the massive landscapes of our minds.” I am going to have to try to work that quote into a conversation today.

“Tomorrow” - Akeeb Kareem

Distinctly African guitar, a keyboard that sounds like an 80s video game, a singer who can rip and the perfect amount of record static make this song sound like a message from another planet. A planet of funk.

“Yessir!” - Doom featuring Raekwon

How in the world did I miss this year’s Doom album? Today’s like an early Christmas, I’ve been absorbing it. My two favorite tracks so far are the two featuring Wu members; the other one is “Angelz” with a verse from Tony Starks nee Ghostface:

The Books - The Animated Desciption of Mr. Maps

I suggest you remove your shoes, cuz this is going to blow your socks off.

The Black Keys - So He Won’t Break

These guys are pretty good, but this song is really good.  Danger Mouse also produced the album, so that helps.
